Hawks Outlast CCNY 62-45 to Win Fourth-Straight CUNYAC Contest

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY - The visiting City College of New York gave the Hunter College women's basketball team a run for its money tonight but the Hawks used a dominant second half performance to top the Beavers, 62-45 at the Hunter Sportsplex on Monday evening.

The Hawks limited the Beavers to just 18 second-half points while scoring 37 to take tonight's victory. With its fourth-straight win in CUNYAC competition, Hunter improves to 9-11 overall and 7-1 in the conference while CCNY falls to 3-17 and 1-6 in league play with its loss.

The Hawks were led by Kristen Markoe who finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Alease Vaughan also performed well, recording a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. As a squad, the Hawks shot 50% from the floor and 50% from behind the arc after hitting 4-of-4 threes in the second half.

Hunter played from behind for majority of the first half thanks in large part to 11 early turnovers as the Beavers took control of the game early, jumping out to a 8-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. The Hawks battled back to within two (10-8) with 13:37 to play but CCNY would catch another spark and take a slim 27-25 advantage into the break.

Donika Rexhepi led the visitors with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Hunter returns to action this Wednesday, February 1st at 5pm as it hosts John Jay College in the regular season home finale. The game will also serve as Senior Day with the Hawks paying tribute to Megan McKenna and Johanna Keilwitz prior to tip-off.
