JAMAICA,NY - On Wednesday, October 3rd the women's tennis team travelled to Jamaica, Queens to take on the Cardinals of York College. The Hawks outplayed the Cardinals, winning 8-1. With the win, Hunter improves to 4-3 while York drops to 2-5.
The match started out with doubles, with juniors
Jane Selegean and
Shena Joseph blanking York's Valeria Roland and Maleeka Chin at first doubles 8-0. At second doubles, sophomores
Beth Chapnick and
Caroline Kaleda breezed by their opponents with a score of 8-3. Freshman
Angelina Usherenko and sophomore
Stephanie Ahwireng topped Sohan Sookdeo and Taliah Cudro at third doubles 8-3 to make the Hawks go up 3-0 going into singles play.
Singles proved no better for the Cardinals, as the Hawks took five out of the six singles matches. Chapnick took down her opponent at sixth singles 6-0, 6-0, while Usherenko had an easy time at fifth singles winning 6-1, 6-1.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday, October 5th when they play host to Lehman College at 3:30 p.m.
