NEW YORK, NY - The women's basketball team traveled cross-town last night to play agaisnt conference foes, the Bloodhounds of John Jay. After an even performance by both teams in the first half, the Bloodhounds were too strong in the second, dropping the Hawks 61-49. With the loss, the women fall to 2-6, 2-2 CUNYAC while John Jay improves to 4-4, 2-1 CUNYAC.
The game started out as a low-scoring game, as neither team connected on many shots. John Jay and Hunter shot a combined 13-52 from the floor in the first half, with the Bloodhounds going 7-27 and the Hawks shooting 6-25. After Hunter took a four point lead early on, the Bloodhounds score nine unanswered points to take the lead.
During the second half, the Hawks outscored John Jay 11-1 to pull within five points of the lead as the Bloodhounds were up 51-46 with 3:47 remaining. Unfortunately for Hunter, John Jay reestablished control of the game the last two minutes.
The Hawks were led by
Nicole Lenard with 18 points and four steals, while sophomore Dimitra Thomopoulos had a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. John hay was led by Simone Victor with 17 points and went 6-9 on the floor.
The Hawks are back in action on Sunday, December 30th when they travel to Newark, NJ to take on the Scarlet Raiders. The game is slated for a 1pm start.
