BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College women's basketball team lost just its third but final CUNYAC regular season matchup as the rival Baruch Bearcats ran away with a 74-43 victory in the ARC Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats' victory improved the team's record to 15-9 overall and 10-2 in the CUNYAC as the squad captured the second overall seed for the upcoming league championship. The Hawks dropped to 11-13 overall and finished the season 9-3 in the CUNYAC to earn the number three seed in the tournament.
Shatira Hamlet and
Kristen Markoe each finished with 11 points to guide the Hawks while
Nicole Lenard chipped in with nine. Markoe also led the squad in rebounds, pulling down 12 boards.
The Hawks struggled offensively, especially in the first half as Hunter only managed to finish the stanza shooting 11 percent as Baruch lept out to a staggering 40-12 lead. The Hawks committed an uncharacteristically high number of turnovers (28) and saw its offense distrupted as the team shot just 22% from the field.
Hunter played a considerably stronger half in the second, trailing Baruch just 34-31 but the first half deficit proved too great to overcome.
Shamika Boyce paced the Bearcats with 18 points and 19 rebounds.
The Hawks are back in action to close out the regular season on Tuesday, February 14th when they travel to Farmingdale for a 7pm matchup.
The CUNY Athletic Conference will announce the entire Championship Tournament schedule on Monday. As the #3 seed, Hunter will likely host on Sunday, Feb. 19th at 2pm. Complete Championship information will be revealed later in the week so check back with www.HunterCollegeAthletics.com.
