Hawks Come Up Short in 69-61 Loss at Lehman

BOX SCORE

BRONX, NY - Despite freshman standout Shatira Hamlet netting a season-high 19 points, the Hunter College women's basketball team's comeback attempt fell short against Lehman as the Hawks fell, 69-61 at Mt. St. Michael's Academy on Sunday afternoon.

Hunter drops to 10-12 on the year and 8-2 in the CUNYAC while Lehman improves to 13-11 and 7-4 in the conference.

The Hawks were led by Hamlet who finished with 19 points while Megan McKenna and Kristen Markoe each chipped in, recording double-doubles. McKenna scored 14 points and tallied 11 rebounds while Markoe added 13 points and grabbed 14 boards.

The Hawks trailed by 10 points at halftime as Lehman took a 34-24 advantage into the break. Hunter trailed by as many as 15 points in the second and fought back to within four when Markoe converted a jumper at 1:19 to make it 65-61 in favor of the Lightning. However, Lehman converted a layup with 46 remaining and then knocked down a pair of late free throws to seal the game and put Hunter out of reach.

Hunter was plagued by turnovers and shooting woes as the Hawks turned the ball over 17 times and shot just 31 percent from the field in today's loss.

Hunter will look to rebound when it returns to CUNYAC action on the road this Wednesday, February 8 at CCNY with a 5pm tip-off.
