Women's Tennis Capture Season Opener

Hawks looking for 13th consecutive CUNYAC Championship

FARMINGDALE, NY- The Hunter College women's tennis team competed in their first match of the season on Friday, Septemper 7th against Farmingdale State College. The Hawks dominated in singles and doubles, giving them the 6-3 win.

Junior captain Jane Selegean paired up with junior Shene Joseph to take first doubles in a close 8-4 match-up.  Sophomores Gina Yeo and Stephanie Ahwrieng teamed up for second doubles, but fell in a close 6-8 match, giving the Golden Eagels their only doubles win.  Sophomores Caroline Kaleda and Beth Chapnick, played the closet match of the day but came out victorious with a 9-7, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead going into singles.

Selegean quickly disposed of her opponet 6-0, 6-1 in first singles, while Yeo dominiated in third singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win.  The Hawks only needed one more match to win, but Joseph and Ahwireng both won their second and fifth singles matches to give the Hawks the win.

The women are back on the court on September 15th, where they travel to Kean University, to compete in a dual match.
