JAMAICA, NY - On Friday, January 11th the women's basketball team traveled to Jamaica to compete against the Cardinals of York College in a conference match-up. The Hawks took a lead in the second half and would never relinquish it, taking the game 75-65. With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-9, 4-2 CUNYAC while the Cardinals drop to 0-13, 0-6 CUNYAC.
The first half proved to be a back and forth affair, with the Hawks running off with the lead with six minutes left with a good layup by Erick DeJesus. Hunter went into the locker room with a comfortable 10 point deficit.
The Hawks lead for most of the second half, with Cardinals taking a one point lead with 16:38 on the clock. Hunter answered back with a good three-pointer by junior Kristen Sells, and were able to get back to their 10 point led with five minutes remaining in regulation.
Junior standout
Nicole Lenard scored a game-high of 28 point, while recording six assists and four steals. Sells netted 19 points with five rebounds and three steals. Dejesus added 11 points, four steals, and eight rebonds while freshman
Ayanna Hudson led the team with rebounds with 11.
The Cardinals were led by Ishonda McFarland who recorded a double-double scoring a career-high of 28 points, while grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Hawks are back on the court on Wednesday, January 16th when they host the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College. Tip-off is set for a 5pm start.
