MAHWAH, NJ - The women's basketball team suffered a heart breaking loss to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College in a non-conference match-up last night while on the road, 53-49. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 2-8 while the Roadrunners improve to 8-4.
Behind 13-5 with 18:00 on the clock the Hawks clawed back to make it 13-11 with 11:31 left in the first half with a made basket by sophomore Dimitra Thomopoulos. The Roadrunners then went on an 8-5 run, extending their led to 21-16 left in the half. Ramapo would go on to outscore the Hawks 5-0 in the final minute of the game, giving them a 25-16 led at half time.
The Hawks came back strong as they took a one point lead with 15:12 on the clock in the second half. Hunter went on a 12-2 run which included two three point baskets and was capped of by a jumper by junior
Nicole Lenard to take the lead for Hunter, 28-27. Up by 39-38 after Lenard hit a basket with 5:31 left, the Roadrunners were able to take a 47-44 lead with just 1:23 left in the game. Sophomore
Carolyn Kweon sunk a three-pointer but fouls plaged the Hawks as the Roadrunners made two free throws to give them a 53-49 victory.
Hunter was led by Lenard who had a game high of 20 points, eight rebounds, going 6-22 from the floor. Thomopolous led in rebounds having 10, barely missing a double-double with nine points while Kweon netted nine for the Hawks.
The Hawks are back in action on Friday, January 4th when they host the Beavers of CCNY in a conference game. The game is slated for a 5pm start.
