BOX SCORE
New, York, N.Y.- John Jay came up with the game winning goal with under three minutes remaining in the second half to avoid overtime and win 2-1. The Hunter Hawks fall to (2-14) while the Bloodhounds move to (3-13-1).
The first half started with both teams buzzing for the ball. Each team was linking passes and moving up the field with ease. John Jay struck first however as Omer Abdella received a through ball that split the defense and slipped it past Jr. keeper
Emmanuel Aprilakis in the 4th minute. The lead did not last though, as Fr. forward
Brandon Fiscina received a similar through ball from So. midd Renao Lazo and blasted it by the Bloodhound keeper only one minute later.
Once both teams settled into the flow of the game neither team put more than two shots of net the remainder of the half.
The second half saw John Jay grab the momentum and tilt the field in their favor. They were able to put 8 shots on net in the second half while the Hawks were only able to muster 2.
Aprilakis came up huge in the second half, standing on his head to keep the game tied. Two saves in particular came from point blank range. In the 73rd minute a John Jay forward broke in all alone and ripped a shot from 5 yards that Aprilakis was able to grab. Only two minutes later another forward received a cross and was able to head it towards goal but Aprilakis came up huge again as he was able to parry it away from net.
With under three minutes remaining in the second half, John Jay was able to quickly break out and move up field. With the ball on the right side past half midfielder Alexis Bustillo sent a long ball 30 yards towards the left of goal, where it fell to the feet of Omer Abdella who was able to again slot it home.
The Hawks did not quit however and they managed two more attempts on goal, with a left footed shot by Jr. Midd
Joseph Gallardo Alzate screaming just wide of the left post.
The Hawks return to the pitch on Tuesday October 23rd as they take on Manhattan rival Baruch College on senior night.
