New York, N.Y. - Hawk senior Diego Mercado netted four goals in the Hawks first victory of the season against the Cougars of Medgar Evers on Wednesday, October 2nd at Randall's Island. With the win, Hunter improves 1-10, 1-2 CUNYAC while MEC drops to 1-6, 0-3 CUNYAC.

Hunter got off to a quick start, with Mercado scoring the first goal of the game at minute three assisted by fellow senior Rocky Marin. The Cougars however answered right back with a goal of their own by Shawn Jordan at minute nine, tying the game at 1-1. Strong Mercado scored his second goal of the game at minute 13, with an assist from Brandon Fiscina from a shot abot 12 yards out, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Mercado continued to dominate the field, netting his third goal of the game at minute 16 with an assist from Michael Taft, making the score 3-1. Hawk Jose Gallardo-Alzate scored his second goal of the 2013 season at minute 18 by a header at the back post, assisted by Mercado. Gallardo-Alzate scored again soon after at minute 28 assisted by Marin. The Hawks finished the first half with Mercados 3rd goal at minute 36, going into half-time with a commanding 6-1 lead.

Hunter would use the momemtum from the first half in the second, as they contiuned to dictate the field. Fiscina got things started for the Hawks again at minute 52, scoring a goal on an assit from Renato Lazo. Mercado then had a shot off the corner at minute 55, netting his fourth and final goal of the game, giving his team an 8-1 lead.

Taft then scored Hunter's last two goals of the game, with the first being at minute 57 assisted by Ostap Lopatsky, and the second at minute 65 assisted by Youseph Anwar, giving the Hawks a final 10-1 win.

The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, October 5th when they play host to the Dolphins of CSI. Kickoff is slated for a 3:00 pm start.
