Women's Tennis Defeats Lehman, 7-2

RESULTS

Bronx, N.Y. - The women's tennis team captured their second victory of the seaon against the Lightning of Lehman College on Wednesday, October 2nd.  With the win, the Hawks improve to 2-4, 2-2 CUNYAC while the Ligntning drops to 3-7, 1-2 CUNYAC.

During doubles play, the Hawk team of Shena Joseph and Stephanie Ahwireng dominated in the first position, 8-3.  At second doubles, Angelina Usherenko and Sara Beck took down their opponents with an identical score.  Beth Chapnick and Nastassia Chittumuri pulled out a closer match at third doubles, defeating the Lightning 8-5.

The Hawks went into singles with a comfortable 3-0 lead, paving the way for a 7-2 win. At first singles, Joseph defeated Nellya Blinova 6-4, 3-6, but then Blinova retired due to injury, giving Joseph an automatic win. In the the second singles slot, Ahwireng took town Gabriela Harewood 6-4, 6-0. At third singles Usherenko toughed out a long three setter match, defating Lynessa George 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.  Beck also had a three setter, overcoming  Kantomalala Rasedoar 7-5, 1-6, 10-7 at fourth singles. 

The Hawks are back in action on on Thursday, October 3rd when they play host to Rutgers-Newark.
