New York, NY – The women's basketball team won its sixth consecutive game last night against the Cardinals of York College, 55-49. With the win, the Hawks improve to 11-12, 9-5 CUNYAC while the Cardinals drop to 2-21, 2-12 CUNYAC.
The Hawks were led by
Nicole Lenard, who scored a game-high of 20 points and eight rebounds. Teammate Kristen Sells had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 boards, while CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Ayanna Hudson scored eight points while adding 10 rebounds.
Joey Chan chipped in with eight rebounds while
Dimitra Krissi Thomopoulos netted six points in the victory. Danielle Dunn led the Cardinals with 14 points while teammate Angelika Ruggiano added 13.
The Hawks never trailed in the entire game, having their biggest lead of the night at 16:47 after a good Lenard three-pointer, making the score 39-27 in the second. But York fought its way back into the game, and went on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 45-45 with 7:41 left.
However, the Hawks would regroup and held a four point lead in the final minute, stopping the Cardinals last attempt on their last run.
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, February 9
th, when they travel to Brooklyn College to take on the Bulldogs for the second time.
