Women’s Tennis Loses Heartbreaker to Farmingdale State, 5-4

RESULTS

Flushing, NY - Hunter College's women's tennis team dropped a hard fought match against the Rams of Farmingdale State College by a score of 5-4, on Wednesday, September 18 at the USTA National Tennis Center.

The Hawks picked up an early lead winning the 1st doubles match over the Rams. Jane Selegean and Shena Joseph teamed up for a dominating 8-1 victory over the Rams.

Farmingdale State then won the next two doubles matches to reclaim the lead heading into singles play. Hunter's duo of Angelina Usherenko and Sara Beck competed at 2nd doubles and fell 9-8 (7-5), while Beth Chapnick and Nastassia Chittumuri battled at 3rd doubles but were downed 8-2.

Heading into singles play, the Hawks trailed the Rams 2-1. Hunter split with Farmingdale State winning three out of the six singles competitions. Jane Selegean won 6-0, 6-4 at 1st singles, Shena Joseph won 6-1, 6-2 at 2nd singles, and Nastassia Chittumuri won 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 at 6th singles.

The Rams defeated Stephanie Ahwireng 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 at 3rd singles, Angelina Usherenko  at 4th singles (6-0, 6-4), and Sara Beck at 5th singles (6-1, 6-1) picking up a road win.

"We played a great match against a good team and our players fought hard to the very end," commented Head Coach Erienne Gale.
