Hunter Men’s Soccer Falls 3-2 to Lehman

New York, NY –Hunter men's soccer fell to Lehman 3-2, on Saturday, September 21 in their CUNYAC season-opener. Diego Mercado recorded his first goal of the season and assisted the Hawks next goal in the 62nd minute to George Orsaris.

Hunter fell behind after a Lehman goal in the 30th minute for an early 1-0 edge. Lehman scored again in the 51st minute, but the Hawks responded a minute later after a foul on the Lighting. Hunter's Diego Mercado netted his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute from the left side of the field.

Trailing 2-1, Hunter continued their aggressive play in the second period. In the 64th minute, George Orsaris scored the equalizing goal off of a Diego Mercado assist. The Hawks fought back and finally tied the match at 2-2. Several attempts by the both teams failed and the match was sent into overtime knotted 2-2.

The Hawks continued to attack in the first extra period behind four shot attempts. Nikolaos Orsaris, Rocky Marin, Diego Mercado, and Joseph Gallardo Alzate all fired shots on the Lighting defense but failed to score and anchor a Hawks come from behind win. The two teams headed to the second extra period tied 2-2. The game-winning goal was scored with 3:33 remaining in the second extra period by Lehman. The Lighting won 3-2.

Goalkeeper Emmanuel Aprilakis had four saves to lead the Hunter defense, while the offense had 15 shots on goal.
