Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Hunter College women's tennis team fell to rival team Brooklyn College this Wednesday, September 25th, 6-3. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-4, 0-2 CUNYAC while the Bulldogs improve to 8-0, 4-0 CUNYAC
At first doubles, the tandem team of
Jane Selegean and Shena Jospeh fell to reigining CUNYAC Player of the Year Yulia Orkis and Suraya Maenhout, 8-4.
Stephanie Ahwireng and
Angelina Usherenko teamed up at the second spot, and despite having a 6-2 lead the team of Maria Sanz and Roslia Xue fought back to take the match 8-6. The third doubles team that consisted of
Beth Chapnick and
Abigail Rojas fell 8-6 to Diana Beshta and Gianna Gelosi to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead going into singles.
Joseph defeated her counterpart at second singles 6-1, 6-3 to give the Hawks their first win of the day. Ahwireng also won her match at third singles, defeating Sanz in a tight 6-4, 7-5 match. Sophomore Sara beck dominated in the sixth singles flight, winning 6-1, 6-1.
THe Hawks are back in action tomorrow, Thursday September 26th when they play host to the Beavers of CCNY. The match is slated for a 4:00pm start.
