RESULTSFLUSHING, NY – The Hunter women's tennis team took on rival Baruch College on Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Courts at Queens College. The Hawks came away with a 7-2 victory to improve their overall record to 5-4 and 4-1 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks started out strong in the doubles competition winning 2-of-3 matches. Playing #2 doubles,
Angelina Usherenko and
Sara Beck stayed unbeaten by easily dispatching their opponents 8-1. Usherenko and Beck are 5-0 this season when they are partners. In the #3 doubles match,
Marie Visker and
Pauline McGlone battled to earn an 8-5 victory over their opponents.
The #1 doubles match saw the Bearcats win a hard fought 8-6 decision.
Needing only three wins in the singles competition to earn the victory over their rivals, the Hawks achieved far more wining 5-of-6 in singles. #5 singles player
Paulina Szegda gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead by defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-0. The next Hawk to wrap up her match was #2 singles player
Julia Vranas who earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Bearcats would earn their second team point in #1 singles with Allie Jackson-Hing defeating
Abigail Rojas.
#6 singles player Beck would earn the clinching fifth team point by dispatching her opponent 6-2, 6-3. The Hawks would win two more points securing the 7-2 win with a 6-2, 6-4 win by #4 player Usherenko and #3 player
Janani Bavanandan.
The Hawks look to secure the #1 seed for the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament when they take on York College on Monday at 12pm.
