RESULTSQUEENS, NY – The Hunter women's tennis team clinched the 2014 CUNYAC regular season title with a 9-0 sweep of York College on Monday afternoon.
The Hawks opened up winning all three doubles matches with relative ease.
Julia Vranas and
Janani Bavanandan easily defeated their opponents with an 8-0 victory. #2 pair of
Angelina Usherenko and
Sara Beck extended their undefeated to 6 matches in row with an 8-1 win. #3 doubles pair of
Marie Visker and
Linda Gebre Yohannes defeated their counterparts 8-4.
In the singles competition #1 singles
Abigail Rojas defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Beck gave the Hawks the match clinching fifth victory with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Tetyana Gavrylenko defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-0. #4 player
Paulina Szegda won her match 6-0, 6-2, while Bavanandan and Usherenko won their matches 6-0, 6-1.
This marks the 14
th regular season title for the Hunter Women's Tennis program in the last 15 seasons. The Hawks close out the regular season on Wednesday when they will take on Kean University. They will open up the CUNYAC Tournament on Sunday October 19
th against York.
