Hawks Advance To CUNYAC Semifinals

BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter women's volleyball team swept York College on Tuesday night in the CUNYAC Quarterfinals at the Hunter Sportsplex. The #1 seed Hawks will move on to the Semifinals where they will face CCNY on Friday night at 6pm.

The Hawks never trailed in the three set sweep and only were tied with the Cardinals three times the entire match. They won by the scores of, 25-12, 25-5, 25-15.

"This is a great win," said head coach Val Lang. "We are two wins away from where we want to be. We will get those two wins by taking it one point at a time and keep working hard."

In the first set, the Hawks took control early thanks to strong attacking play from Karolina Gajda, Samantha Barrett and Julia Connolly, all of whom recorded multiple kills in the set. The Hawks aggressive play forced the Cardinals into many mistakes that the Hawks capitalized on. Taylor Kordich closed out the first set with back-to-back kills.

The Hawks dominated the second set right from the beginning, jumping out to a 12-0 lead thanks to the attacking play that has guided the Hawks all season, combined with the mistakes of the Cardinals. Connolly, Gajda and Lucia Stosic all smashed multiple kills during a 12-0 run to start the game and a 10-0 in the middle of the set.

The third set began as a back and forth affair with the Hawks earning points on kills from Stosic and Connolly, while the Cardinals won theirs on three Hawk errors. With the set tied 5-5, the Hawks re-focused and began to play the same aggressive way that won them the first two sets. They recorded 14 kills in the third set en-route to a 25-15 victory.

Connolly led the way with 11 kills while hitting .563% and Gajda chipped in with nine kills while hitting .571%. Kordich had a great game with seven aces to go along with five kills and a .625 hitting percentage, Stosic had five kills and one block assist.

The Hawks have yet to drop a set against a CUNYAC opponent this season.

In a pre-game ceremony, head coach Val Lang honored the two seniors, Taylor Kordich and Lucia Stosic, with a plaque and gift, both players leave the Hunter Volleyball as two of the most accomplished players in recent history.
