BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Hawks women's basketball team lost 75-54 to Manhattanville College on Monday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-5 on the season.
The Hawks opened up the game going toe-to-toe against the Valiants. They kept it close throughout the majority of the first half, as they were very aggressive on the offensive end getting to the free throw line 14 times in first 20 minutes.
The Hawks took their first lead of the game with just over eight minutes to go on back-to-back made free throws by
Ashley Yu to go up 22-21. Manhattanville would hit a three a few minutes later to retake a two point lead but once again the Hawks got to the line and two made free throws by
Kerrin Sells tied the score at 24 apiece. From that point forward, the Valiants went on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 35-24 lead and go into halftime with a 40-27 lead.
The Hawks battled hard in the second half but were unable to overcome the inside presence of Alyson Caiazzo and the outside ability of Bri Pabon. Pabon scored a game-high 28 points, while Caiazzo scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Leading the Hawks was
Kristen Markoe who once again notched a double double, her seventh straight. She scored 23 points while grabbing 16 rebounds. Dimitri Thomopulos had 12 points and six rebounds, while
Ayanna Hudson grabbed 15 rebounds.
The Hawks return to action Friday night against CUNYAC rival Baruch College. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30pm. Friday is also Homecoming 2014 with events beginning in the Sportsplex at 3:30pm.
