BOX SCORE COBLESKILL, NY – The Hunter men's soccer team kicked off the 2014 season Saturday afternoon against SUNY Cobleskill. The Hawks lost the match 3-1.
The Fighting Tigers took the lead in the 29' on Jared Gallup's first of two goals on the game. The Hawks rallied and equalized 10 minutes later on free kick from
John Alzate-Taimal that found the head of
Kamal Chhetri. In the closing seconds of the 1
st half, the Fighting Tigers went ahead on a cross from Gallup that found David Vosatka's foot to put Cobleskill up 2-1. The Fighting Tigers would put away the Hawks in the 85' when Jack Callender's ball into the box found Gallup for his second of the match.
The Hawks tested the Cobleskill keeper throughout the game putting nine of their 13 shots on target.
Fausto Perez and
Wilson Aldas each put three shots on goal but keeper Steve Seelman turned away eight shots.
"I am encouraged and excited in the effort I saw from our returning players," said head coach
John Sanchez. "The new guys meshed well with our returners and even thought we suffered a tough loss, I'm proud of my guys and their effort."
