BOX SCORE 2 NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Women's volleyball team continued their play at the NYU Labor Day Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks lost both of their matches against Centre College and Babson College.
The Hawks lost in straight sets against Centre, 25-17, 25-20 & 25-18. The Colonels dominated play, surrendering the lead only twice in all three sets. Sloppy passing plagued the team which made it difficult for the Hawks to get into an offensive rhythm.
"We started strong and felt good about our lineup for the match against Centre College," said head coach
Val Lang. "We suffered an injury to one of our players and we couldn't make up for her loss."
Freshman
Julia Connolly led the Hawks offense with a .250 hitting percentage, she also contributed with nine kills and 13 digs.
The Hawks final match of the tournament was against Babson College which saw the Beavers win in straight sets, 25-13, 25-20 & 25-16.
"We faced a very strong front row against Babson," said coach Lang. "They forced us to shift our game to an off-speed offense, making us look for placement rather than power shots which started to work for us in the 2
nd set."
Senior
Taylor Kordich was great in service scoring four aces and kept the offense moving with a .308 hitting percentage.
"Playing in such a strong tournament this early in the season gave us an opportunity to see first-hand the strong competition we will face this season," said coach Lang. "We were competitive against some really strong teams and we definitely have some work to do in preparation for Stevens Tech on Wednesday."
The Hawks fall to 1-3 on the season with their next match coming Wednesday September 3
rd against Stevens Tech in Hoboken NJ, match time is scheduled for 7pm.
