Hawks lose a tough one against NYU

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter Women's Volleyball team returned to action Wednesday night as they traveled to take on the NYU Violets in a non-conference matchup. The Hawks put up a tough fight, but the Violets came away with the victory in three sets.

"For the match against NYU our focus was mainly on our first contact with the ball: serve, pass, and block.  With one of our starters, Karolina Gadja out sick and Angelica Aquino back to the court returning from rehab of an ankle injury, we expected the team to be more vocal and play against our own adversities to hold up a good game against the NYU squad.

As the game progressed, our passing find the consistency we have been looking for to run our middle offiense.  A few adjustments on our back row defense gave us better court awareness to dig the big slides from NYU middles. By the third set, the team started to show more confidence playing with a different lineup, but it was a bit too late to fight back for the win.

We were happy to see improvement with better defense, better serve-receive and more block touches, especially against a team like NYU running a fast offense with a great libero player taking charge of their back row defense. We also rephrased with the team the need of starting off the game with a stronger mind set, playing more aggressively early on," states head coach Val Lang.

The Hawks start CUNYAC play this weekend at Lehman College Multi-Match, where they will try to get back into winning form against CCNY at 11am and York College at 3pm.
