UNION, NJ – The Hunter Women's Volleyball team took part in the Kean University Tournament on Friday and Saturday, going 2-2 and improving their record to 3-6.

On Friday, the Hawks took on host Kean University and were swept 3-0. The reigning ECAC Champion Cougars jumped on the Hawks early in the first set winning 25-17. In the second set the Hawks fought hard but lost a heartbreaking 26-24 set. The Cougars completed the sweep with a 25-18 third set win.

"We showed some improvement with our serving," said head coach Val Lang. "I'm proud of the way we battled Kean but we just fell short committing to many offensive errors."

In the second match of the night against Farmingdale St, the Hawks were able to bounce back with a dominating 3-0 sweep.

"We were able to take control in the second match creating opportunities to mix our lineup to get more players involved," said coach Lang. "Our serves were on point and our blocking was able to adjust to their off-speed offense."

The stars for the Hawks on day one were Julia Connolly who combined for 14 kills; Lucia Stosic was excellent in all phases going for 11 kills, four aces and 10 blocks. Karolina Gajda starred as well combining for 11 kills and three aces.

On Saturday the Hawks returned to action first against Frostburg State followed by Centenary College. The Hawks dropped the first match 3-1 and swept the second match 3-0.

Connolly and Stosic were dominant at the net with 17 and eight kills respectively. The Hawks jumped ahead with a 25-21 first set win but then proceeded to lose the next three sets.

In the final match of the weekend against Centenary, the Hawks dominated play from the beginning with a 25-5 thrashing in the first set. Connolly and Stosic were once again great at the net with 11 and nine kills respectively. Taylor Kordich played excellent as well with 18 assists and 11 digs.

For her outstanding performance Julia Connolly was named to the All-Tournament Team, she finished with 42 kills.

"We are growing as a team," said coach Lang. "We are starting to see some improvements and that is a positive sign as we get into the middle section of our schedule."

The Hawks return to action Wednesday September 10th when they travel to NYU to take on the Violets at 6pm.
