Hawks Take Two At CUNYAC Multi-Match

BRONX, NY – The Hunter Hawks women's volleyball team kicked off CUNYAC play on Saturday with two matches. The Hawks swept CCNY and York to improve to 5-7 on the season.
 
In the first match against CCNY, the Hawks looked to neutralize 2013 CUNYAC Player of the Year Leticia Marotti. They defeated the Beavers, 25-15, 25-8, 25-18. The Hawks served very well totaling 14 serving aces as a team. Paulina Jobczyk had five serving aces while Kristine Ciurcina chipped in with four.
 
"Our serves were gaining power and precision," said head coach Val Lang. "We have been working on that and it's great to see it happen in a match."
 
Lucia Stosic and Julia Connolly continued their strong play at the net with each smacking six kills with Stosic recording one solo block and assisting on five others. Connolly assisted on two blocks.
 
In the Hawks second match against York they took control early winning the first set 25-7. They continued to pressure the Cardinals winning the second and third sets 25-15 and 25-11.
 
The Hawks serving was once again on point with the team totaling 23 serving aces, a season high. Taylor Kordich and Angelica Aquino each had eight aces. Connolly and Stosic one again dominated at the net combining for 13 kills, with the senior, Stosic, having one solo block.
 
The Hawks resume CUNYAC play Tuesday night when they are set to take on John Jay College at 6pm.
