Hawks Fall At FDU Quad-Match

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 | BOX SCORE 3 MADISON, NJ – The Hunter women's volleyball participated in the FDU-Florham Quad-Match on Saturday where they played three tough and competitive matches against Mt. Aloysius, FDU-Florham and Ramapo College.

In the first match against Mt. Aloysius, the Hawks lost 3-2. They fell behind 2-0 and battled back to force a fifth set. CUNYAC Player of the Week Lucia Stosic led the Hawks with 15 kills; she also had 11 combined blocks with six of them being solo blocks. Stosic also had a .414 hitting percentage. CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Julia Connolly was also stellar smacking home 14 kills.

Taylor Kordich led the Hawks with a season-high 32 assists, she also had seven kills with a .500 hitting percentage. Kristine Ciurcina chipped in with 16 assists. The Hawks combined for 16 blocks.

In the second match against the host FDU-Florham the Hawks battled in a back and forth five set match but ultimately fell 3-2.

Connolly led the Hawks with 13 kills, she also had eight digs. Kordich played another great overall game contributing nine kills and 10 assists. Stosic had another great defensive game tallying 11 total blocks, five of which were solo blocks. Ciurcina led the team with 15 assists.

In the third match against Ramapo College, the Hawks fell 3-1.

Connolly and Stosic once again led the way, they each smashed 12 kills. Stosic once again led the defense with five solo blocks and an outstanding .647 hitting percentage. Connolly also had 12 digs. Kordich once again was excellent setting up her front line handing out 18 assists.

"Our team played very competitive this weekend and even though we didn't take the wins back home we definitely improved our game," said head coach Val Lang. "It was a great opportunity to set a baseline for the amount of effort, hard work, focus, passion and control it takes to compete against the opponents on our schedule.

"We are back to the drawing board to work on some adjustments on how to control the game to minimize errors as well as to adjust our front row defense and make our blocking a more efficient scoring tool," said coach Lang.

"We were happy with the overall team performance and looking forward to a competitive match against Vassar College this week."
