Hawks Suffer 54-46 Loss To Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY – The Hunter women's basketball team lost 54-46 on Wednesday night to Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC matchup. The Hawks fall to 5-10 overall and 3-4 in CUNYAC play.

Both teams struggled offensively to open the game, with the Hawks offense sputtering shooting 2-for-22 from the field and only managing 11 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Hawks defense kept the Bulldogs from scoring as well as they held them to 17% shooting from the field but Brooklyn led 18-11 at halftime.

The battle continued in the second half as both teams awoke on the offensive end. The Hawks started slowly as the Bulldogs opened up a 15 point lead with 15:25 left in the game.

The Hawks finally got the offense going after that going on a 16-2 to cut the Brooklyn lead to 28-27 with 9:30 to go.

With less than two minutes to go the Bulldogs grew their lead back to eight points but the Hawks dug in and cut the lead to 47-45 on a jumper by Dimira Thomopoulos with 38 seconds to go.

The Bulldogs made their free throws in the final possessions securing a 54-46 victory.

CUNYAC Player of the Week Kristen Markoe led the Hawks with 15 points and nine rebounds, Thomopoulos added 11 points. Lucia Stosic led the team with 11 rebounds.

The Hawks return to action Friday January 16 as they will take on Lehman College in a CUNYAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 5pm.
