BOX SCORE

NEW YORK, NY – The Hunter women's basketball team lost 74-72 to Lehman College on Friday night in a CUNYAC matchup. The Hawks fall to 5-11 overall and 3-5 in CUNYAC play.

The Hawks nearly overcame a 13 point second half deficit but they were unable to get past the Lightning as they held on for the 74-72 victory.
In the first half the Hawks were in control to start, getting out to a 27-15 lead with 5:22 left in the first half.

CUNYAC Player of the Week Kristen Markoe led the Hawks offense in the first half scoring 16 of her game-high 33 points to help the Hawks take a 33-25 lead into halftime.

Lehman came out aggressive in the second half as they took the lead away from the Hawks 42-41 less than five minutes into the half. The Lightning's second half offensive spark was led by Kerrin Walker who scored all of her 17 points in the period.

Amani Lightbourne led the Lightning with 20 points and Jennifer Navarro scored 13 points.

With 6:15 left in the game the Lightning took a 59-46 lead and were looking to secure the victory. The Hawks stayed persistent and continued to chip away at the lead pulling to within five points after a Markoe 3-pointer with 35 seconds left.

Joey Chan would score four straight points, both on offensive rebounds to pull the Hawks within two points with five seconds left. The Hawks couldn't control an offensive rebound to get a look for a game-tying shot and lost 74-72 to Lehman.

The Hawks had four players score in double-digits, led by Markoe's 33 points; she would also grab 13 rebounds, her 10th double-double of the season. Chan would score 13 points and grab eight rebounds; Ayanna Hudson would also have a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Dimitra Thomopoulos would score 10 points.

The Hawks return to action Monday January 19 when they travel to New Jersey to take on Ramapo College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
