Women's Swimming Suffer First Loss Against USMMA

FINAL RESULTS

NEW YORK, NY -
The Hunter women's swimming team suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday night as the US Merchant Marine Academy defeated the Hawks 78-44. The Hawks now sit at 7-1 on the season.

"USMMA is a very tough team and I felt it could've gone either way as a win or a loss," said co-head coach Scott Bintner. "The team stepped up and posted times better than expected and they should be commended for that."

Freshman Alexandra Rubiano, once again broke her own team record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:17.29.,

Out of the 14 scored events, the Hawks placed second 10 times, losing multiple races by just hundredths,of a second. The closest race of the night was in the 100 fly where Jacqueline White edged out Rubiano by just 0.16 seconds. In another close race, the 50 freestyle, Vanuessa Xue came in second being out-touched by just 0.81 seconds.

"We trained hard over the winter break and many of the girls swam just off their season best times," said coach Bintner. "Our perfromance just wasn't enough to crack a win in some tightly contested races."

The Hawks return to action Friday evening when they will take on CUNYAC rival Baruch College. The meet is scheduled to begin 6pm.
