BOX SCORE JAMAICA, NY – The Hunter women's basketball team won their third straight CUNYAC game with a 73-63 comeback victory against the York Cardinals. The Hawks improve to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks fell behind by as much as 16 points in the first half and trailed 38-27 at halftime only managing to shoot 34% from the field.
The second half was a different story with the Hawks coming to life shooting 50%. They chipped away at the lead and took their first lead of the game after a
Kristen Markoe made jumper with 4:50 remaining gave the Hawks a 60-59 lead.
The Hawks would dominate the final 4:50 of play outscoring the Cardinals 13-4 to secure a 73-63 victory.
Markoe would record another double-double, her ninth of the season, tallying a season-high 38 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Markoe scored 26 points in the second half to lead the Hawks.
Dimitra Thomopoulos chipped in with 12 points,
Joey Chan had 10 points and
Ayanna Hudson grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
"We had a great team effort tonight," said head coach
John Garrett. "Everyone did their part. Ayanna was great on the glass, Krissi played stellar interior defense and Kristen continued her torrid shooting."
The Hawks return to action Monday January 12 when they will take on NYU. Tip-off is scheduled for 5pm.
