New York, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball swept Medgar Evers College on Thursday night, defeating the Cougars in a dominating three sets with scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-10.
The Hawks are 16-12 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
It took some time for the Hawks to get going in the first set as they committed several errors to trail the Cougars, but Hunter regained composure to score seven-straight points and lead 9-3.
Medgar Evers would score just five more points for the rest of the set as Hunter won the first with a score of 25-8.
The Cougars took the early lead in the second set again until the Hawks could pull ahead for a solid 9-4 lead. From there Medgar Evers scored three-straight points, pulling within just two of the Hawks.
It would not be until later in the set that Hunter would earn a comfortable lead, ending the second with a 10-2 run to take the game, 25-13 and lead the match, 2-0.
The Hawks came out on fire in the third set, scoring nine-straight points for a 9-0 lead. Despite a 4-1 run by the Cougars, Hunter was able to finish strong, scoring six-straight points for a 25-10 third set win to take the match, 3-0.
Julia Connolly led the Hawks on offense with 18 kills, while
Miranda Hogan recorded 26 assists.
The team will return to action on Saturday when they host a tri-match tournament against Grinnell College and Centenary College.
