Mahwah, NJ - Hunter College women's volleyball dropped two matches and got one win at the Ramapo Tournament this past weekend.
The Hawks are now 8-9 overall, but remain 4-0 in conference play.
The first match on Saturday was against Ramapo as the Hawks fell with a score of 3-1, featuring sets with scores of 20-25, 16-25, 25-22 and 14-25.
Despite the Roadrunners earning the first two wins of the match, the Hawks were able to come back to get the 25-22 third set win. Ramapo took control of the fourth set quickly, taking a commanding 11-5 win early on. The Roadrunners ended the set with a 7-1 run to win, 25-14 and get the match win, 3-1.
Julia Connolly led the team with 11 kills, while
Miranda Hogan notched 28 assists.
Haley Trunkett led the Hawks on defense with 19 digs in the loss.
In the second match of the day the Hawks took on SUNY Cortland, falling in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-12. Hunter was able to keep the first two sets close, only falling behind by no more than four points. It looked as though they could take the third but then quickly fell behind as the Dragons got the sweep with a 25-12 win.
Taylor Kerr-Haiduk led the team with eight kills in the loss, while Hogan continued to dish out assists with 19.
Angelica Mae Aquino was a factor on defense for Hunter, recording a team-high 15 digs.
On Sunday, Hunter matched up with conference foe, Brooklyn College, earning its first win of the tournament with a score of 3-0. The Hawks dominated the Bulldogs in three sets with scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-8 for their second win over Brooklyn this season.
Kerr-Haiduk led the team with 11 kills in the lone win, committing on three errors for a .400 hitting percentage. Hogan had 32 assists, while Aquino notched 15 digs for the second-straight match.
The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 when they take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. in Kings Point, NY.
