Women's Tennis Breezes By Brooklyn

The Hawks cruised to an 8-1 victory.

Queens, NY - The Hunter women's tennis team made quick work of Brooklyn College yesterday at the USTA National Tennis Center, defeating their CUNYAC rivals by a dominant score of 8-1. The Hawks swept the three doubles matches and took five of six singles matches. With the win, Hunter advances to 2-4 overall, 2-1 in CUNYAC play.

Olivia Funk and Janani Bavanandan took care of Ievgeniia Kostenko and Suraya Maenhout in top doubles, 8-5 while the duo of Angelina Usherenko and Sara Beck defeated their Brooklyn counterparts 8-2. The final pair of Pauline McGlone and Catherine Ng blanked Gatma Serageldin and Emiliya Poptsova in third doubles, 8-0.

In the singles competition, Funk defeated Kostenko in three tough sets (6-0, 1-6, 7-6) at top flight singles. Bavanandan fell to Suraya Maenhout in three at second singles while the rest of the line up came out on top. Usherenko won 6-1, 6-0, Paulina Szegda was the victor at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-1 while Beck came out on top 6-3, 6-0 at fifth singles and Ng rounding out the winning contingent with a perfect 6-0, 6-0.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 10 when they face York College at 12pm.
