New York, NY - The City of New York Athletic Conference has released the the 2015-16 Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll to reveal Hunter slated in the #6 spot. The poll is conducted by the league's coaches. Baruch College tops the preseason list while Amely Del Rosario of Lehman was tabbed as the Preseason Performer of the Year.
The Purple and Gold are coming off of an 11-16 season which included a 7-9 mark in conference play. They made a run in the CUNYAC Tournament after a hard fought 57-54 win over Lehman in the quarterfinals, but were bounced by top-seeded Baruch.
This year, the Hawks have a balanced mixture of returners and newcomers this year and look to make another run deep into the CUNYAC Tournament. They will have to do without the scoring prowess of their former star,
Kristen Markoe. Second year head coach,
John Garrett, will be relying on
Ayanna Hudson and
Ashley Yu to lead the team. The duo combined for 12.2 ppg, 11.8 rebounds/game and saw an average of 30 minutes per game. "I'm looking forward to an exciting year with a young group of talented athletes. Replacing a lot of senior leadership with youthful exuberance. It should be a fun season."
The Hawks kick off their season on Saturday, November 14 in Union, NJ when they take on Kean at 1pm in a non-conference contest.
