New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell to Manhanttanville College this past Wednesday with a score of 68-47. The Hawks are now 4-7 overall and 1-3 in CUNYAC play this season.
Widly Couloute led the Hawks with 13 points in the loss, while
Jade Aponte followed with 11 of her own. Couloute added ten rebounds in the game for a double-double. Despite two players scoring in double-figures, the Hawks could not stop the Valiants (8-3) from a dominating performance as four players scored ten or more points.
Hunter maintained a lead for most of the first quarter until Manhattanville would pull ahead to lead 17-12 at the end of the first. The Hawks did not stray far, starting the second quarter with a jumper from
Ayanna Hudson to trail by just three points, but then the Valiants went on an 8-2 run to make the score 25-16.
Couloute ended the Hawks' drought with a three-pointer with three minutes left in the half, but those would be the last points Hunter would score as the Valiants led 31-19 at halftime.
Hunter once again started the third quarter strong as Aponte hit back-to-back shots from behind the arc to begin the third and help the Hawks go on a 6-0 run. The Valiants continued to find points, outscoring the Hawks 12-6 in the quarter to lead 43-31.
Fouls and missed shots would plague the Hawks in the fourth quarter, allowing Manhattanville to stretch their lead and win the game, 69-46.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Medgar Evers College for a 6 p.m. tip off.
