New York, NY – At the conclusion of the regular season, the Hunter College women's basketball team was awarded the #5 seed in the CUNYAC Women's Basketball Championship presented by Army ROTC.
The Bearcats of Baruch College (21-4, 16-0 CUNYAC) locked up the top spot courtesy of their unblemished conference record. #2 Brooklyn (18-6, 14-2 CUNYAC) sits just ahead of Staten Island (15-10, 12-4 CUNYAC) in the three spot while Lehman's (16-9, 10-6 CUNYAC) 10-win conference mark was good enough for the #4 seed. Hunter (10-15, 7-9 CUNYAC) edges #6 John Jay (6-16, 6-10 CUNYAC), #7 York (7-17 4-12 CUNYAC) and CCNY (5-20, 3-13 CUNYAC).
Hunter will square off against Lehman College on Saturday, February 21
st on the road as they travel to the Apex Center in the Bronx, home of the Lightning. Earlier this season, the Purple and Gold fell to the Lightning by two points, 74-72 on January 16 and then suffered their second loss to the CUNYAC foe, 72-61 nearly a month later.
The Hawks are led by graduate student
Kristen Markoe who leads her team, as well as the conference, with 20.2 points per game. Additionally, she ranks in the top-five in the conference with 10.4 rebounds per game, three-point field goal percentage (.361), free throw percentage (.835) and assists (3.6). Recently, Markoe surpassed the 1,000 career rebound milestone and has scored over 1,700 career points.
