BOX SCORE BRONX, NY -, The Hunter women's basketball team defeated Lehman College 57-54 on Saturday afternoon in the CUNY Basketball Tournament quarterfinals.

The Hawks opened up the game strong on the defensive end holding the Lightning without a point for the seven minutes of the game.

Despite the strong defensive pressure, the Hawks weren't able to distance themselves from the Lightning, as they only made three field goals in the first seven minutes.

After a jumper by Lehman cut the lead to 12-10 with just under 6:44 left in the half, the Hawks went on an 11-3 to close out the half.

Kristen Markoe nailed back-to-back three pointers during the run and the Hawks also got baskets from Ashley Yu, Ayanna Hudson and Joey Chan to give the Hawks a 23-13 halftime lead.

In the second half, the offense picked up for both teams. Yu's made jumper less than two minutes into the half would give the Hawks a 13 point lead, their largest of the game.

The Lightning would go on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to cut the Hawks lead down to three points.

Markoe and the Hawks would not give in as the forward from Staten Island would go on to score 11 of the Hawks next 13 points restoring the teams 10 point lead.

The Lightning would try and fight back as they would be able to cut the Hawks lead all the way down to one, with 22 seconds left, after Navarro made 2-of-2 from the free throw line.

Markoe would go 3-for-4 at the line in the final 30 seconds to secure the Hawks three point lead. She would finish with a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds, her 15th double double of the season. Chan would score 10 points.

The Hawks move on to, the semifinals on Tuesday February 24 at 6pm. They will face the winner of the #1 Baruch/#8 CCNY game.
