BOX SCORE NEW YORK, NY -The Hunter women's basketball team lost 64-56 to Brooklyn College on Friday night, ending the Hawks three game winning streak. The loss drops the Hawks to 9-14 overall and 6-8 in CUNYAC play.
The Hawks controlled the action early on, dictating the pace but found themselves trailing early on the the first half. After trailing 8-6 less than six minutes into the game, the Hawks would go on a 16-5 run over the next 10 minutes of play to take a 22-13 lead.,
Leading the Hawks during the first half run were the Hawks trio of senior leaders,
Joey Chan,
Dimitra Thomopoulos and
Kristen Markoe, who combined to score all 16 points during the Hawks run.
The Bulldogs would chip away at the Hawks nine point lead cutting it to five points going into halftime down 26-21.
The second half was a battle early on with the teams trading baskets as the game was tied four times in a five minute span.,
The Bulldogs pulled away with a mini 7-0 run to turn a 38-38 tie to a 45-38 lead with just over seven minutes to go in the game.
The Hawks showed some life getting to within five points but the Bulldogs would make their free throws down the stretch to secure a 64-56 victory.
Markoe led the Hawks notching her 15th double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Chan and Thomopoulos continued their strong play as they scored 16 and 14 points respectively.,
The Hawks return to action Tuesday February 10 when they will take on Lehman College, Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.,
GAME NOTES;This game was Breast Cancer Awareness Night for the Women's Basketball team. Combined they raised over $1,200 to help end Breast Cancer.
Prior to the start of the game,
Kristen Markoe was presented with a game ball, for surpassing 1,000 career rebounds. She is the first women's basketball player in Hunter Athletics history to achieve that feat.,
