Women's Volleyball Pushes Past John Jay in Three Sets

Volleyball Wins Third-Straight

New York, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball got a win against John Jay College on Tuesday night in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-21.

The victory gives the Hawks their third-straight win and 3-0 record in conference play. 

The first set started close until Hunter went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-6 lead. Things would look good for the Hawks until John Jay went on a run of their own, scoring seven points of their own to trail by just one point. 

The Hawks came out from a timeout and regained composure, closing on the first set with a 9-1 run to win 25-16.

Hunter came out strong in the second set, immediately jumping out to a 10-1 lead, featuring kills from Angelica Mae Aquino and Julia Connolly. The Bloodhounds finally broke the run with a kill of their own, but the Hawks continued to score, recording three-straight points and eventually pulling ahead with a dominating 17-3 lead.

The Bloodhounds were able to score seven points in the end of second, but Hunter still got the win with a score of 25-10 to lead the match, 2-0.

John Jay jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the first, but the Hawks would score four-straight points to regain the lead. With the score tied at 10 Hunter was able to pull ahead by scoring four-straight points but John Jay stayed with them, never falling behind by more than three points.

The Bloodhounds eventually tied the score at 18, but the Hawks went on 7-3 run to take the third set 25-21 and win the match, 3-0.

Connolly led the team with 11 kills and committed just two errors for a .375 hitting percentage. Miranda Hogan tallied 26 assists in the win, while Haley Trunkett led the Hawks defensively with 13 digs.
