New York, NY - Hunter College soccer fell to John Jay on Wednesday afternoon with a score of 3-1 to start conference play with a record of 0-1.
The first forty minutes of the game went with no score as neither team could find a goal for the majority of the first half. With five minutes left in the half John Jay was able to net a goal off a cross from the right side of the field to lead, 1-0.
At the 59 minute mark in the second half the Bloodhounds struck again, knocking down another goal to make the score 2-0. The Hawks had several chances to score but did not convert until the 76:45 minute mark when
Mostafa Mosbah kick the ball into the far corner of the goal to trail John Jay, 2-1.
While Hunter attempted to tie the game up with just a few minute to play, the Bloodhounds recorded another goal to close out the game and get the win, 3-1.
Both teams recorded nine shots in the game with Hunter's goalkeeper Garrett Babbit tallying two saves.
Today's game was part of a national fundraiser that the team took part in. Go4TheGoal is a program that helps kids with cancer achieve their goals. Their mission is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. The squad wore gold laces to represent their support for Go4TheGoal.The Hawks will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26 when they face York College in Jamaice, NY.
