New York, NY - Hunter College women's volleyball fell to Vassar College in a non-conference match on Wednesday in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-16.
With the loss, the Hawks now have an overall record of 4-5, while maintaining an undefeated conference record.
The first set was close as each team struggled to maintain a solid lead. The Hawks began to pull ahead when they scored six-straight points to lead 9-3, but the Brewers did not go away, quickly tying the score again at 10. Hunter was able to go on another 6-0 run and it eventually looked like they would take the set, leading 22-17. Instead, Vassar went on a 7-1 run to tie the score and then pull ahead, taking the first set with a score of 25-23.
Hunter once again took the early lead in the second set, but Vassar regained composure to go on a 9-1 run and take a 12-6 lead. The Hawks scored three out of the next four points but the Brewers were able to keep the lead, eventually pulling ahead, 21-13. The Hawks recorded three straight kills but it would not be enough as Vassar took the second set, 25-18 to lead the match 2-0.
The Brewers controlled much of the third set, pulling out to an early 10-4 lead. It would take the Hawks most of the set but they fought back to trail by just four points with the score 19-15. The comeback would go unnoticed as the Breweres scored six of the last seven points to win, 25-16 and get the victory, 3-0.
Angelica Mae Aquino led the team with six kills and no errors for a .665 hitting percentage, while
Miranda Hogan notched 22 assists and
Haley Trunkett earned 14 digs in the loss.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 when they host the Hunter Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
