Staten Island, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell to College of Staten Island on Wednesday with a score of 75-48. This is the fourth-straight loss for the Hawks who are 6-11 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
Ayanna Hudson led the team with 14 points, while
Christine Patterson followed with 12 and
Widly Couloute added 11. Couloute also led the team with 12 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. The Hawks shot 22-69 from the floor for a 31.9 shooting percentage, while the Dolphins notched a 44.4 shooting percentage.Â
The Dolphins struck first three minutes into the game with back-to-back three pointers for 6-0 lead. Staten Island continued to be hot from behind the arc, hitting two more shots over a one minute span for a ten point lead early on in the game. The Hawks closed out the first quarter on a run, scoring seven-straight points to trail by just four going into the second.Â
With 3:30 left in the second quarter Hunter trailed by just five points, but the Dolphins were able to go on a 7-0 run to lead 31-19 at halftime.Â
Staten Island continued their impressive shooting in the third quarter, scoring 12 of the first 13 points to gain their largest lead of the game of 23 points. The Hawks did what they could, hitting several jumpers, but the Dolphins matained the lead, making the score 55-34 at the end of the quarter.
Hudson and Couloute came together in the fourth to score for Hunter, but the Hawks could not stop Staten Island defensively as the Dolphins continued to hit big threes. The deficit was too big to come back from for the Hawks as the Dolphins took the game, 75-48.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 when they travel to Baruch for a 5:30 p.m. game.Â
