New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball got their second-straight win on Friday with a victory over York College, 74-59. The Hawks are now 3-3 in conference play this season.
Ashley Yu led the team with 18 points, while
Jade Aponte followed with 11.
Ayanna Hudson was close to a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds and Wildly Couloute also scored nine points while pulling down 10 rebounds.
The Hawks shot 41.5 percent from the floor in the game, while York shot just 28.3 percent.
The Hawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the game and were able to maintain that lead until two minutes left in the first quarter when the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run. The Cardinals led by as much as nine points early in the second quarter, but the Hawks began their comeback, scoring 11-straight points to pull ahead, 29-27.
The score remained close, but it was Hunter that would end the second quarter with a two-point lead. The third quarter began with a jumper from
Christine Patterson, but York would fire back with baskets of their own to trail by just one point three minutes in. It would not be until two minutes left in the third that the Hawks began to pull away, leading by eight points and then ending the quarter with a 6-0 run to lead, 59-46.
The fourth quarter is where the Hawks took the game as the Cardinals never got within less than 14 points of Hunter. The Hawks eventually got the win, 74-59.
The Hawks will return to action on Monday, Jan. 11 when they host NYU at the Hunter Sportsplex at 5 p.m.
