BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball got a win against SUNY Cobleskill on Friday night in the first round of the Hunter Tip-Off Tournament, defeating the Fighting Tigers with a score of 62-50.

The Hawks are now 1-1 after starting the season with a loss against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday night.

The Hawks took an early lead and remained in control for the rest of the first ten minutes, closing out the quarter with a 9-2 run to lead 20-12. The Tigers started the second quarter strong, cutting Hunter's lead to just three points, but the Hawks responded with baskets from Edina Music and Christine Patterson to go back up by seven.

Selina Lim finished it off for Hunter in the first half by hitting a shot from behind the arc in the last minute to give the Purple and Gold a 31-23 lead at halftime.

Ashley Yu helped Hunter to a 14 point lead to start the third quarter by scoring four-straight points, while Lim contributed four of her own over the next three minutes. The Tigers managed to hang on by hitting some shots from the floor, but Hunter remained in control at the end of the third with a score of 42-33. 

Neither team would score to begin the fourth quarter until two minutes in when Cobleskill nailed a three-pointer to trail by just six points. Lim and Yu once again paced the Hawks offensively to help them keep a small lead, but Theresa Leung came in for Hunter and saved the day by scoring 11 points in the last two minutes of play. Phoebe Valenton closed out the game with three-straight free throws as Hunter got the victory, 62-50.

Leung led the Hawks with 19 points in the win, while Lim followed with 13 of her own. Music recorded a team-high ten boards for Hunter.

The Purple and Gold recorded a 31.2 (17-53) field goal percentage, while outrebounding Cobleskill, 42-36.

The team returns to action tomorrow in the championship game against Alfred University at 2 p.m. at the Hunter Sportsplex.
