BOX SCORE Brooklyn, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell in its conference opener on Tuesday night, dropping the game to Brooklyn College with a score of 64-53.
The Hawks are now 3-2 this season and have started CUNYAC play 0-1.
The game started close with points from
Christine Patterson and
Ashley Arias keeping the Hawks in the game. At the 5:10 minute mark, Brooklyn's Twanda Holder would hit back-to-back three pointers to spark an 11-0 run for the Bulldogs as Hunter trailed 19-6 to end the first quarter.
Brooklyn started the second right where they left off, immediately scoring five points, but Patterson helped out the Hawks by hitting a layup and then a free throw to make the score 24-9. Hunter's
Phoebe Valenton ended the second quarter with two made free throws as the Purple and Gold trailed 35-14 at halftime.
Hunter was held to a 15.4 shooting percentage in the first half in comparison to Brooklyn's 50 percent.
The Hawks came out in the second half strong as
Selina Lim, Patterson, Arias and
Ashley Yu combined for seven points in the first three minutes. The Bulldogs continued to find points, going up by 23 points at the 4:15 mark, but
Theresa Leung led Hunter in the next minute, scoring six-straight points to make the score 46-28.
Lim and Yu opened up the fourth quarter with back-to-back layups, igniting a 10-3 run for Hunter with five minutes to play. The run would help the Hawks trail by just 13 points as the Bulldogs struggled offensively. Six made free throws to end the game assisted the Purple and Gold but it was not enough as they fell 64-53.
Leung led the team with 11 points and eight rebounds, while recording three steals. Patterson and Lim followed with eight points each and Arias recorded a team-high nine rebounds. The Hawks ended the game with a 23.3 field goal percentage.
The team returns to action on Friday, December 2 when they take on Medgar Evers College at 5:30 p.m.
