BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball got its third-straight conference win on Friday night with the defeat of City College of New York, 71-57.

The Hawks are now 6-3 overall and 3-1 in CUNYAC play this season.

Hunter led for most of the first quarter, going on an 11-3 run in the final four minutes of the quarter with the help of Christine Patterson, Jade Aponte, Ashley Arias and Ashley Yu. Leading 17-10 at the beginning of the second, Hunter was outscored 7-2 to start the quarter. 

Aponte and Selina Lim got the Purple and Gold back in the game with back-to-back three pointers and then Theresa Leung hit a jumper to give Hunter the 30-21 lead. The Hawks allowed the Beavers to hit some layups but finished the half with points from Phoebe Valenton and Arias to make the score 37-28 at halftime.

Aponte led the Hawks with ten points in the first half, while Arias added ten rebounds.

The game remained close in the third with Hunter ending it with a seven-point lead. The Beavers opened up the fourth with an immediate two points to trail by just five and then scored four of the next seven point to cut Hunter's lead to four. 

From there Aponte and Leung hit two-straight shots from behind the arc and the team converted on free throws to go on a 14-2 run over a span of three minutes. Leading by 16 points, the Purple and Gold closed it out to the remaining minutes to take the game, 71-57.

Aponte led the Hawks with 21 points , while dishing out three assists and recording three steals. Patterson followed with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds for two new career-highs. Arias tallied a double-double of her own with 11 points and and team-high 15 boards, while Leung led the squad with seven assists in the victory. 

The Hawks shot 39.7 percent from the field, while holding CCNY to a 32.8 field goal percentage and forcing 25 turnovers.

Hunter returns to action on Monday, December 12 when they travel to St. Joseph's - Brooklyn for a 5 p.m. game.
