New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball came back from an eight-point deficit to defeat Medgar Evers College with a score of 61-57. The Hawks have now won their second-straight game, helping them to a 5-8 conference record.
Ashley Yu led the team with 16 points, while
Christine Patterson followed with 12.
Ayanna Hudson recorded her second-straight double-double and seventh of the season, notching 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Hawks shot 38.5 percent from the floor and held the Cougars to a 29.7 shooting percentage.
Yu struck early in the game, hitting a shot from behind the arc just 20 seconds into the first quarter.
Ashley Arias would then hit two shots for Hunter, as the team was able to lead by three points at the end of the first quarter.Â
The Cougars came back in the second quarter and immediately went on an 11-0 run, gaining the lead and making the score 23-16. Patterson would hit back-to-back shots, sparking an 8-2 run for the Hawks, featuring six points from Patterson, to give the Hawks the 29-27 lead at halftime.Â
The Hawks would maintain the lead until the 5:08 minute mark in the third quarter as the Cougars suddenly went on a 13-5 run. Yu hit a three-pointer with three minutes to play in the third, but Medgar Evers led by eight points going into the fourth quarter.Â
Hunter came out on fire in the fourth quarter, going on an 11-2 run to lead by one point with five minutes to play. A free throw from the Cougars would give them back the one-point lead but two-straight baskets from Patterson in the final two minutes solidified the win for the Hunter as they got the victory, 61-57.
The Hawks will return to action on Friday, February 5 when they travel to Brooklyn College.Â
