A 6-1 Vassar run in the middle of the first gave the hosts enough breathing room to hold on for the first set victory. The Purple and Gold mounted a comeback sparked by a Crusinberry kill to unravel a 4-1 run, cutting the deficit to just two, but the Brewers responded with five straight points to build a seven point lead as they closed the first, 25-18.
In the second, Hunter was pinned against the ropes early on and found themselves down by seven at the 14-7 mark. A 9-3 Hawk run made it a one point affair at 19-18, but they ran out of real estate down the stretch as Vassar ended their second set 25-21 victory on three straight points.
Down, but not out, the Purple and Gold rattled off four straight points, bookmarked by Crusinberry kills, to take their largest lead of the game at 11-7. Down the final stretch, Sanchez found Tarquinio who secured the final three points with kills to grab the 25-21 set win.
In what would be the final set, Vassar unleashed a crippling 10-2 run, setting Hunter back 15-8 by the midway point. Despite clawing their way back to make it a 22-19 game, the deficit proved too much to recover from as the Brewers closed the books on a 25-20 set and match win.
