Men's Volleyball Improves to 12-0 With Win Over Dolphins

Hawks Defeat College of Staten Island, 3-0

The Hawks improve to 12-0 in CUNYAC play with the win over College of Staten Island last Thursday.
BOX SCORE Staten Island, NY - Hunter College men's volleyball got a win over College of Staten Island last week, defeating the Dolphins in three sets with scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-10. With the victory, the Hawks extend their conference win streak to 12 matches and improve to 18-7 overall this season.

Ben Crusinberry and Blake Hogan led the Hawks in the match, each posting nine kills, while Hogan committed zero errors for an outstanding .600 hitting percentage. Nicolas Sanchez continued to control the team at the setter position, assisting 26 kills and also recording a team-high five digs. The Hawks recorded a .354 hitting percentage as a team, while holding the Dolphins to a -.074 percentage.

The Dolphins would take the early first set lead, recording two kills to make the score 3-1, but the Hawks responded with an 8-0 run that included three kills from Hogan. Staten Island came back to trail by just three points, but the Hawks went on another run, closing out the set with 11-straight points to take the first, 25-11, in dominating fashion.

Hunter jumped out a 6-2 lead early in the second set as the Dolphins capitalized on Hunter errors to pull within two points. The Hawks remained in the lead, but struggled to shake Staten Island, who continued to trail by just two points for most of the set. A 4-0 run finally gave the Hawks a commanding 17-9 lead, but the Dolphins quickly came back to trail by four points. Hunter managed to pull out the win, eventually getting a 25-17 win to lead the match, 2-0.

The Hawks immediately took a 10-3 lead in third set, featuring kills from Crusinberry, Hogan, Sanchez, Matthew Zukowski and Steven Tarquinio. The Dolphins recorded a kill but Hunter could not be stopped, scoring six-straight points and then closing out the set with a 4-2 run to win, 25-10 and take the match, 3-0.

The Hawks return to action on Tuesday when they face Brooklyn College at 6 p.m. in Brooklyn, NY.
