New York, NY - Hunter College softball went 2-0 in its City University of New York Athletic Conference season debut against Lehman College this past Thursday. In the first game of the day the Hawks defeated the Lightning 14-0 and followed that up with a 9-0 victory to end the night.

Game 1Pitcher
Erika Colangelo led the Hawks to a first game victory over Lehman through her stellar performance on the mound as she held Lehman to two hits, nine strikeouts, and a shut-out game. The Hawks scored early in the first inning after a passed ball by Lehman's catcher, allowing
Christine Kline to advance home. With Alanna Vezza on third, Brianna Monaco recorded an RBI single, giving Hunter a 2-0 lead to close the first inning.

Kline notched two RBIs in the second inning when her double to the outfield scored
Taylor Crofts and
Nicole Fillisetti. Highlighted by
Emily Ruiz's three RBI home run, the Hawks scored a whopping 10 runs while recording 11 hits in the third inning. Hunter finished the game with 14 runs, 15 hits, and no errors to get the 14-0 win.

Game 2The Hawks went back to work in the second game of the day, immediately scoring three runs in the first inning with Vezza sparking the Hawks with a single to force Crofts to home.
Stefanie Abolt then tripled, recording two RBIs as
Victoria Slavik and Vezza scored to give Hunter the 3-0 lead.

The dominance continued in the second with Crofts and Kline combining for three RBIs to make the score 7-0.

Hunter closed out the game in the third inning, scoring two more times off Ruiz and Crofts hits. The game would end in the fifth inning due to weather, giving the Hawks a 9-0 win.
The Hawks recorded 13 hits in the win, while pitcher
Sara Beck held the Lightning to just one.Â
