New York, NY – The men's volleyball team added two more wins this past Saturday at the final CUNYAC Multi-Match of the season. The day began with a 3-0 sweep of the Beavers of CCNY and was capped with another 3-0 score over York College to keep the Hawks a perfect 15-0 in conference action as their overall record is bolstered to 21-8.
CCNY RecapThe Hawks cruised to their first win of the day behind the dominant scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-17. They overpowered their counterparts, 31 team kills to 15, six aces compared to just one for CCNY, registered 12 blocks, 33 digs and 24 assists; all numbers greater than their foe.
Blake Hogan led the attack with 10 kills and six digs while the duo of
Benjamin Cassidy and Benjamin Crusinberry combined for 11 kills, 10 total blocks and 10 digs. Setter
Nicolas Sanchez earned all 24 of the team's assists which was also a game high.
York RecapHunter rolled handily through their second game as they ousted the Cardinals in three, 25-7, 25-15 and 25-13. As a team, they notched 11 aces, hammered home 36 kills, collected 20 digs and tallied four blocks; each category higher than their opponent.
Crusinberry had a game high 12 kills while Cassidy and Hogan combined for a total of 14 kills. Sanchez earned another game high with 25 assists and added six digs and five service aces to his stat line.
Hunter exploded offensively, rattling off unanswered points in sets of six, six and four to go ahead 17-3 in the first. They pushed out to a commanding 21-4 advantage and put the finishing touches on a 25-7 win courtesy of a kill from
Austen Rerick.
York surprised the Hawks in the second, going up 5-3 in the early stages, but a 6-0 run gave the Purple and Gold the lead. The Cardinals would get no closer than within seven points as Hunter once again powered through to the end, capping the 10-point, second set win with a Hogan kill to go up 2-0.
In the third and final set, an 8-2 early lead quickly turned into a 20-13 advantage for the Hawks. Holding a comfortable seven point upper hand, Hunter rattled off six unanswered points comprised of three kills, one service ace, one block and one York attack error to cruise to the end, 25-13.
Hunter will close out the regular season on Tuesday evening, March 29, when they face their CUNYAC rivals, Baruch College, in a 6pm game downtown at Arc Arena.
